Assessing the Impact of SugarLock® Peanut Skin Extract on Postprandial Blood Glucose Control

The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of pre-meal supplementation with SugarLock® peanut skin extract and white kidney bean extract on reducing or delaying postprandial blood glucose elevation and glycemic fluctuations, and to evaluate their potential as nutritional supplements for postprandial glycemic management.

This study is a single-center, randomized 2×3 crossover human trial designed to evaluate the effect of SugarLock® peanut skin extract on postprandial glycemic regulation. Healthy adults aged over 18 years with fasting blood glucose below 100 mg/dL and without type 1 or type 2 diabetes will be enrolled. Each participant will complete three test visits, with at least a 48-hour washout interval, while wearing a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGM). On each test day, after fasting for at least 10 hours, participants will consume either two peanut skin extract capsules, two white kidney bean extract capsules, or water only 15 minutes before eating white rice containing 50 g of carbohydrates. Postprandial glucose responses will then be continuously monitored for 3 hours to assess the effects on blood glucose elevation and glycemic fluctuation.

Inclusion Criteria:

• Adults aged 18 years or older;
• Fasting blood glucose level < 100 mg/dL;
• Individuals without type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Exclusion Criteria:

• Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study period;
• Individuals with chronic gastrointestinal diseases (such as irritable bowel syndrome [IBS], inflammatory bowel disease [IBD], chronic diarrhea, celiac disease, short bowel syndrome, ulcers, colorectal cancer, etc.), a history of epilepsy or seizures, psychiatric disorders, malignant tumors, endocrine disorders, liver or kidney disease, or other major organic diseases;
• Individuals with a history of gastrointestinal surgery or organ transplantation;
• Individuals who have taken medications or supplements affecting blood glucose or insulin within the past three months;
• Individuals allergic to peanuts or white kidney beans;
• Full-time employees in the same department as the principal investigator, and students directly taught by the principal investigator during the current semester.
