Effectiveness of the Girls Mobile Application on Sexual Communication Among Adolescent Girls
Effectiveness of the Girls Mobile Application on Sexual Communication Among Adolescent Girls
Adolescents' sexual health has been an important issue for health care professionals, education and society. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a mobile application on adolescent girls' sexual communication self-efficacy and sexual health outcomes. A total of 245 adolescent girls were recruited through purposive sampling between November 2020 and July 2021, with 133 in the experimental group and 112 in the control group. Data were collected at three time points: baseline (T0), immediately after the 6-week intervention (T1), and 4 weeks post-intervention (T2).
Adolescents' sexual health has been an important issue for healthcare professionals, educators, and society. Conversations about sexual health are often sensitive and uncomfortable for young people. This is especially true for adolescent girls, who often struggle to assert their sexual desires or preferences in relationships. Empowering young women with communication and negotiation skills during sexual encounters is therefore crucial. To address this, we developed a sexual communication program based on the ADDIE instructional design model. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of a mobile application on adolescent girls' sexual communication self-efficacy and sexual health outcomes. A total of 245 emerging adult women were recruited through purposive sampling between November 2020 and July 2021, with 133 in the experimental group and 112 in the control group. The experimental group received the sexual communication program, while the control group received routine care. Data were collected at three time points: baseline (T0), immediately after the 6-week intervention (T1), and 4 weeks post-intervention (T2).
