Postoperative Pain Management for Hip Surgeries: UltrasoundGuided Suprainguinal Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block Versus Suprainguinal Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block in Combination With Sciatic Nerve Block

The aim of the Study is to compare the analgesic efficacy and clinical outcomes of suprainguinal fascia iliaca block (SIFIB) alone versus SIFIB combined with sciatic nerve block (SNB) in patients undergoing hip surgery.

The aim of the Study is to compare the analgesic efficacy and clinical outcomes of suprainguinal fascia iliaca block (SIFIB) alone versus SIFIB combined with sciatic nerve block (SNB) in patients undergoing hip surgery.

1. Primary Objectives:

   Time for first rescue analgesia.

2. Secondary Objectives:

   • Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) scores at rest and during movement at 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hours after surgery.
   • Total opioid consumption within the first 24 hours post-surgery.
   • Postoperative incidence and severity of motor blockade in the affected limb associated with each block technique (measured using the Modified Bromage Scale).
   • Technical difficulty and duration of administering each block.

Inclusion Criteria:

• Age: 18 - 70 years old.

  • Sex: Both sexes.
  • American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I , II, III, IV.
  • Hip surgeries e.g.: Total hip arthroplasty, Hemi-arthroplasty, Fracture neck of femur under spinal anesthesia

Exclusion Criteria:

• Refusal to participate.

  • Known allergy to local anesthetics.
  • Coagulopathy or anticoagulant therapy contraindicating regional anesthesia.
  • Pre-existing neurological deficits in the lower limbs.
  • Infection at the injection site.
  • Severe cognitive impairment or inability to assess pain (e.g., advanced dementia).
  • Failed spinal anesthesia.
  • Body mass index (BMI) >40 kg / m²
