A Repetitive Action Simulation Program to Reduce Upper Extremity Hemiparesis: A Feasibility Study
This study aims to examine the effect of an action simulation circuit training for individuals who have experienced upper extremity weakness following a stroke. The study will also examine the feasibility of the intervention as an occupational therapy rehabilitation approach.
Participants will:
Action simulation therapies are particularly advantageous for individuals with upper extremity hemiparesis, by providing opportunities for repetitive practice of functional tasks, that might otherwise be impossible to perform. This research will examine the use of upper extremity action simulation in a circuit training group, to address the unique therapeutic needs and therapy structure deficiencies for upper extremity hemiparesis following a stroke.
Project Objectives:
- Explore the effect of a six-week action simulation upper extremity circuit training group on upper extremity impairments and quality of life for individuals with upper extremity hemiparesis after a stroke.
Upper extremity impairments and quality of life will be assessed before the circuit training and after completion. Additionally, participants will provide information about their overall perceptions of each the intervention through a survey.
