This qualitative study aimed to develop and pilot a structured self-care psychoeducation program for in-service trauma counselors. The program addressed emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual, relational, and professional dimensions of self-care. In the first phase, a needs analysis with 11 counselors informed program development. In the second phase, 17 counselors participated in a seven-session pilot. Data collected via semi-structured interviews and session journals were analyzed using content analysis.

| Psychoeducation on self care of trauma counselors | Other | The results of the needs analysis and findings from relevant literature were used to develop the scope and content of the psychoeducation program. For that purpose; (a) learning outcomes were developed and later grouped under categories, (b) number of sessions were defined, (c) sequence of sessions, their content, materials and activities, method of delivery, and end-session evaluation practices were identified. External expertise was recruited to provide an early assessment of the program for its compliance with the intended goal of reviewing self-care skills with trauma counselors and its effectiveness regarding methods and activities, materials, and evaluation practices selected. In its final form, the psychoeducation program consisted of seven sessions, in each of which the instructor led the introduction and presentation in the first part, followed by participant-centered hands-on activities and session evaluations in the second part. |
